If the crisis places anyone in immediate danger, call 911. If it is not a
crisis and if the person has private insurance coverage through a health plan, call the health plan to get a
referral to a covered mental health provider.

On January 10, 2017, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors dissolved the Mental Health Commission (MHC) and the Advisory Board on Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) Problems, replacing it with a new Behavioral Wellness Commission (BWC).
The Department of Behavioral Wellness operates the Santa Barbara County Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), a 16-bed facility that provides 24-hour inpatient care to individuals requiring psychiatric hospitalization.
